Honesty is the Best Policy

Honesty is the best policy. I heard it many times as a kid. Either it was a reminder about what the Bible says or a quilt trip telling me that I did something wrong. Wow!

Keep it honest. Even a baseball game is honest unless the umpire misrepresents a called play. Then the fans will voice their disapproval even though it doesn't matter.

As a kid I was always told to speak the truth no matter what the circumstances might be. It was part of our Christian ethics along with other good character traits. To disobey deserved punishment and who wanted to live under fear and punishment?

But if you watch the news these days you hear a different scenario. A story of more bad than good echoes from evil hearts. What happened to all the good in this world?

The bottom line appears to be all lies. Lie to your neighbor. Lie on your job. Even lie in the church. Everywhere we go it appears to be that lying is the accepted way of life. What happened to the truth?

A friend of mine just moved from China back to the United States. Over there dishonesty may be a way of survival. Here, he says, the Christian culture is a wonderful way of life, and the church is the hope of the world.
