The Gift of Imagination

The three bears just returned home from their walk in the woods and were angry. "Some one has been eating my porridge," said papa bear. "Me too." said mama bear. "Me too and ate it all up," cried baby bear. "Be quiet baby bear," said mama bear. I didn't make yours yet." Ha! Ha! Ha! I laughed all the way to school that day. I always enjoy a good laugh, don't you?"

A+ misery. A struggling life that makes it hard to get motivated. Just barely able to survive.

But luck is on my side and I hope yours too. I woke up one day and asked myself, "Who am I?"

Am I the president of the United States? No. A storyteller? No A well known evangelist or famous baseball player? None of the above although I wish I were.

Through lots of painstaking study and research I learned about the gift of imagination. God created me with gifts and talents I was totally unaware of for the moment. Please allow me to share.

First, I learned that I am a people person. Task orientated stuff doesn't interest me. I could never be a good accountant. Instead I'd love to be a professor in a classroom or chatting with patients in a hospital'

Second, I love to tell stories and be creative.  Telling stories puts me in another world.

My mother said that my father was a good writer. Unfortunately, he passed away when I was only two years old. Putting words on paper intrigues me.

I'm a baseball fan and been so all my life. Finally the Chicago Cubs became World Series Champions.

It was a big day in my life when I had the privilege of sharing three of my baseball stories on Amazon. Amen! Praise the Lord. God is good.

So who are you? Do an inventory of your own life and you might be surprised. You might be a happier different person than you ever thought you could be.

*** Today we are at a crossroads with Corner Lots Baseball. We have been blessed to share baseball trivia with many people. But now we have to make an important decision and decided to launch a small fund-raiser so that we can continue to offer valuable information in our baseball newsletter. For a $5.00 donation (click the donate button) we'd like you to have an Ernie Banks poster with our compliments. Thank you

The blog you read and newsletter you get every week is FREE. However, I'm retired, and the generosity of your gift will help us to pay other writers and maintain our production cost.

Why is baseball so important? There are lots of things in life with helpful suggestions that baseball fans like to read about. Please allow me to share some of them with you:

(1) Baseball and life helps meet all our needs and makes the world a better place to live. Budget, good health, education, and God, are only a few of the many needs available.

(2) Baseball is popular. It's amazing to see baseball parks filled to their capacity every time there is a game. In every town there is a Little League team. Remember the traffic jam last time you went to a game? Nobody wants to miss out on all the action.

(3) Baseball is a good diversional activity for depression. It helps to chase away the troubles of the world.

(4) Baseball is entertaining. Munching on a hot dog and sipping soda pop with friends is great. And it's fun to mark all the action on a scorecard.

(5) Baseball teaches teamwork. Nine players working together make a baseball game exciting.

Won't you please help us so that we can continue to help make this world a better place to live?

The Uncertainty of Baseball

What is a healthy life style? What about peace within your heart? Yes, it beats being happy.

Today the world lives in a quarantine. A virus is sweeping around the world. Millions of people are sick while many others are dying.

The quarantine has cramped our life style and that includes baseball. The problem of living without baseball needs a solution and action if we ever hope to see some baseball this year (2020).

Mayor Lightfoot of Chicago and Governor Pritzker of Illinois will not sit back and do nothing. In July(2020) they hope to give baseball fans more baseball. The only exception is for the time being there will be no audience along with a few other changes. But sometimes change is good. At least we'll get some baseball again in the Windy City.

This reminds me of the old math problem my math teacher put on the blackboard. In solving a problem there has to be a solution plus some action to get results. Yes two plus two is four. There is more than one way to arrive at the number four. The method is debatable. So likewise in baseball let's take the givens and Play Ball!

Baseball is coming back in July.  Exciting baseball stories once again will be in our newsletter for baseball fans. However, since our blog and newsletter are FREE, we are in need of some financial help to keep the stories coming. With your gift we'd like you to have an Ernie Banks poster with our compliments. Who is "Mr. Cub?

What's in your deck? My hand is loaded with good baseball cards. Ernie Banks, Lou Brock, Babe Ruth, and more.

Who is your favorite baseball player? Perhaps you have many and it's hard to single it out to just one. That's OK. My favorite baseball player is Ernie Banks.

One noted fact that Ernie was famous for was hitting home runs. He led the league a couple of times during the regular season. The problem was he often struck-out several times between putting the ball in the seats. Who says tribulation works patience?

But baseball fans loved him. They got excited every time he came to the plate. In time he earned the name "Mr. Cub."

He was an excellent shortstop with a great pair of hands. Quickly he scooped up ground balls and his throw beat runners to first base. Catching popups was a piece of cake. Flip the ball to second to execute a double-play looked easy. Was there anything Ernie couldn't do?

The only thing that was unfortunate in his baseball career is that he never had the chance to play in a World Series, the dream of every baseball player. Ernie was most deserving of the opportunity.

Do you have any pictures of Ernie Banks? I have collected several in my bubble gum wrappers.

The Shortage

Baseball in July and no fans. Wow! The fun of watching a baseball game with fans and eating hot dogs with soda pop is gone. What fun is that? Another shortage in baseball.

When Johnny returned his plate to the sink he was suddenly interrupted by his mother. "Take your breakfast back to the table. Your not done yet."
"I'm done. These scrambled eggs are terrible."

Mom was mad. "Think of all the starving children in the world."

The boy heard this same story many times before. There are enough shortages to go around for everybody.

Recently the quarantine due to the covid-19 virus has everybody staying at home. Thus the privilege to mingle through the neighborhood is limited. Getting groceries and other essentials is still permitted. We even use a sanitizer to clean grocery carts after they have been used.

Food is also in short supply. Shelves are empty in most stores. Remember the rush to get toilet paper? We mush learn to do without or improvise.

What about church? For the moment there are no large church gatherings. The Distance Rule says people must be at least six feet apart. The wires on the Internet are hot.

Lots of things we often take for granted are gone. It reminds me of the day many years ago I couldn't get a baseball glove. During the Second World War they just weren't making right-handed gloves for Southpaws. Watching my friends play baseball wasn't any fun. Some people get all the breaks.

We must learn to cope and do what we have to do. There will be better days.

The Good Neighbor

David got his hair cut in his good neighbor's basement. It was a time of great need during the quarantine.

Like a good neighbor State Farm is there. When watching the insurance commercials on TV —Progressive, Your in Good Hands with All State, Geico Insurance, and Like a Good Neighbor State Farm is There. There it is again and I can't get it out of my head for all the times I've heard it.

The lady across the street just fell down a flight of stairs. Immediately, without hesitation, I rushed over to her house and assisted in getting her comfortable in her living room.

Later, at the local hospital we pulled up to the Emergency Room entrance. Inside along with some pain medication and X-rays, she was placed in a cast and instructed to follow-up with an Ortho doctor. The ride home was less stressful.

At home the neighbor lady tended to her needs while I went to the grocery store. If my wife knew this she'd kill me. I never cared for our domestic needs unless coaxed enough times to make life miserable. Peace and quiet are real necessities in life and come with a price.

So like a good neighbor I was there. There's always a feeling of peace in my heart when I do something good for the neighborhood. Do you feel that way? Our lady friend had a successful and complete recovery.
